The Ladies College: A comprehensive transformation development
Designed to enhance and modernise the facilities of The Ladies’ College.
Through several phases of projects we worked in close collaboration with the College itself to help create spaces that met the needs of students and staff now and for the future, delivering high-quality educational environments that align with the school's vision.
We have helped shape The Ladies’ College into a modern educational environment, ensuring it remains a leading institution with facilities designed to inspire learning, creativity, and growth for generations to come.
The Ladies' College Sixth Form Centre
As the first phase of the College’s site redevelopment programme, we designed and delivered a dedicated Sixth Form Centre that provides students with a space tailored to their academic needs as they further their education.
Our design included doubling the size of an existing building, and combining an extension with the refurbishment of the original structure to create a stand-alone facility for the Sixth Form. This new centre includes specialised teaching and study areas, allowing students to focus in a modern, purpose-built environment.
The result is a space that offers a welcome environment for independent learning while offering a sense of identity and community for the Sixth Form.
The Ladies' College Art & Drama extension
In 2012, we completed a bespoke extension for the College’s art and drama departments, at both the senior and junior levels. The project included the creation of a purpose-built drama room and an adjoining classroom, as well as 2 art studios, a classroom, staff offices, and additional support facilities. This extension not only provided state-of-the-art spaces for the performing and visual arts but also added much-needed classroom facilities for the Melrose junior and preparatory departments.
The design balances functionality with creativity, offering a flexible environment that inspires students.
The Ladies' College extension and refurbishment
The final part of the development came as part of an ambitious £5.5 million extension and refurbishment project, we were responsible for the transformation of several key areas within the College. This comprehensive project included 10 new classrooms, a modern refectory with kitchen facilities, a music department, a learning resource centre, and new administration offices. We also refurbished the entrance foyer and re-clad the exterior with stone, giving the building a refreshed and sophisticated appearance. Additionally, we introduced a lift and basement storage to improve the functionality and accessibility of the site.
Careful phasing was crucial to the success of this project, ensuring that the College remained fully operational throughout term time. We worked closely with the College to minimise disruption, delivering each phase with precision and sensitivity to the needs of students and staff.
