La Petit Carriere: Highly commended residential conversion

La Petit Carriere: Highly commended residential conversion

Along with The Fuller Group, we were tasked with transforming a redundant warehouse near Rocquaine into 2 distinctive residential units.

This project, which was highly commended in the 2022 Guernsey Design Awards, presented exciting opportunities and unique challenges, as the site forms part of a quirky residential hamlet set against the dramatic backdrop of steep hillside terrain.

La Petit Carriere: Highly commended residential conversion

This project presented exciting opportunities and unique challenges, as the site forms part of a quirky residential hamlet set against the dramatic backdrop of steep hillside terrain.

Nestled into a cliff face, the building's location promoted the natural beauty of the setting but posed challenges in drawing natural light into the structure. Additionally, with neighbouring homes in close proximity, ensuring privacy between dwellings was a priority.

We studied the industrial character of the original warehouse and carefully adapted the roof to create recessed balcony 'nooks', which provide outdoor space while maintaining privacy. By enhancing the building’s existing materials and incorporating a palette of granite, lime render, and timber, we gave the structure a more residential identity that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

The conversion scheme maximises the potential of the existing building, creating a mews-style development that offers compact, high-spec living in a sought-after location. The 2 units are each designed as modern, 2-bedroom homes, complete with parking, external amenity spaces, and stunning rural and sea views.
