Lovell Ozanne architects were asked to assist our clients with the architectural design of an extension to an existing oak-framed garage building. The brief was to create a first-floor office/ private music studio and storage with room for access and parking underneath at ground level.
LOP were charged with obtaining planning permission and a building control license as well as assisting with initial feasibility options for the site. It was important that the extension design tied in seamlessly with the existing building, especially as the oak-framed building is visible from the road and contributes to the character of the property and the area. The client also needed the design and construction to fit in to a tight programme, ensuring that work was completed by a specific deadline.
The result is a much more balanced overall architectural form than the previous garage. By re-using any original pre-weathered timber cladding removed as part of the extension, it is impossible to detect the join between new and old.
Lovell Ozanne relish the opportunity to get involved with sensitive, private residential jobs such as this. It was a pleasure to work with the clients on the design of this small addition to their property, which is already being put to good use.
